Endovascular methods of congenital heart lesions treatment
New methods of endovascular treatment of congenital heart disease without deep anesthesia and without of incision of the chest
were introduced in the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine
during recent years.
These methods allow non-surgical eliminating of following defects:
- stenoses of pulmonary, aortic and mitral valves;
- atrial and ventricular septal defects;
- open arterial duct;
- coarctation of the aorta (balloon dilatation and stenting).
All endovascular interventions are held in X-ray operating room using modern high-tech equipment
by qualified doctors who were trained abroad.
These interventions are performed through a puncture of famoral vessels under local anesthesia with tiny instruments
such as catheters, balloons, intravascular prostheses (stents), special patches (occluders).
Terms of treatment are 3-4 days with full recovery of physical activity in 1-2 weeks.
The advantages of the method:
- atraumatic surgery (surgery is performed without opening the chest);
- without CPB;
- no need of deep anesthesia;
- all devices are made of biocompatible materials;
- excellent cosmetic effect and the absence of trauma;
- short postoperative period.
